in response to Hi Akash, I've
already used RemoveWAT on my PC so now the slmgr file is not in the System32
folder but here in "C:\Windows\System32\slmgr\0409\" I
tried running the command but I still get the same message that
"slmgr.vbs is not a recognized internal or external command,
operable program or batch file." I don't get the pop-up
window on logging in because of RemoveWAT but the desktop message still
won't go. I want to get rid of that annoying message. Could you
provide us with a solution? Thanks in advance., by

Hi Akash. I would like to discuss a few
points in this subject. 1. After reading your blog I hv tried to find the
KB981033 and guess what I did not find it. Even searching the Installed
updates from the search box did not help me out. Without being disappointed I
hv started uninstalling the updates one after another from the top. After
uninstalling a few I restarted the system and "HURRAY" I found the
culprit. Then I fallowed the "Part-A" as recommended. 2. I also hv
used another program, as discussed above by our another friend previously,
which is "RemoveWAT" which did not fix the issue. But have altered
the "slmgr" file name in System32 folder. So what I did??? Before
even trying the "Part-A" I ran a "SYSTEM RESTORE" before
the event. Though it showed me that it "Did Not Finished
Successfully", but when I went ahead to find the "slmgr" file
name, it was been fixed already. That means the system restore could not
alter everything but altered that corrupted file name in "System32"

It works perfectly but the only problem is
that after 1 month it tells you that Windows is not genuine again, so you
don't have to uninstall the update again, you just have to type
"slmgr.vbs -rearm" into command prompt and then restart. I did this
a month ago and after the 30 days finished I did it again but without part A
and it worked. on

Thanks aMoon and Akash - i had the same
problem with the slmgr.vbs being found in a weird place so as you recommended
at the c:> prompt i typed cd "wierd folder that file is in" and
applied the -rearm fix and everything has worked splendid. Note: I also could
not find the update as stated as i had tried to fix this problem before
unsuccesfully by removing and hiding the pesky update - so i just skipped
part A and moved right onto part B = success! on

in response to Thank you so much Akash. I
had a minor issue with Part B, but it worked out in the end. When trying to
do Part B, I got this message, when I typed [C:\Windows\System32\slmgr.vbs
-rearm]. 'slmgr.vbs' is not recognized as an internal or
external command, operable program or batch file. The
"slmgr.vbs" file was not in the
"C:\Windows\System32" folder... instead it was in a very
weird place - "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64....(a lot of alpha-numeric
characters)". I did find a file named
"slmgr.vbs.REMOVEWAT" in the System32 folder though. After
"-rearm"-ing the "slmgr.vbs" file in the
weird folder, I rebooted and my pc loaded without that annoying message.
Thank you so much for the help. Really really appreciate it., by

registry settings (I don't remember what:)), and all error messages is
disappeared but the "genuine message" is still there in the
right-bottom corner of the window. I don't care this message, I put a light
background picture on the desktop and this message is not visible :) When I
check the "My computer" status it says:"You must activate
today. Activate the windows now." but there is no any effect since two
days. If you would like see my certain registry settings I can send you in

rearm but the genuine message is still on my screen (windows 7 enterprise).

Yes I'm sure I'm administrator and it's not
installed on my account. One thing that I think might be causing it: I'm
currently the only useraccount but I had made a guest acount for a friend a

Installing mac on your PC will require some changes in your windows OS. But,

hi just a thing that worked for me... first,
this happened: >slmgr.vbs -rearm 'slmgr.vbs' is not recognized as an
internal or external command, operable program or batch file. then, I
searched for it in system 32, and found it with the following name:
slmgr.vbs.removewat (or something like that) aniway, i just renamed it to
slmgr.vbs after that the command worked for me on

Hi Akash - On Jan 9th I followed your
instructions for removing the windows not genuine message. It worked fine
until today. We tried to follow your instructions again, but was not able to
find the Windows Update: KB971033 file. It is still gone. The only things
that have changed were Adobe flash player 11 plugin, adobe reader 11, Mozilla
Firefox 18.0.1, Mozilla maintenance service and McAfee Security Scan Plus
were updated. Could any of these updates done something to cause the not
genuine message to reappear? Any ideas? :-( S on

Hi. Thanks for a great solution. It worked.
For everyone who can't proceed to step B, look for slmgr.vbs in your system
32 folder. Mine was slmgr.vbs.removewat. I had tried a different solution
which renamed slmgr.vbs. I just restored it to its original name and
proceeded to step B. on

future? Every month or so do a manual update and re-disable KB971033 and a

This worked! Thanks! Took me a few tries
because you cannot only just right-click and select run as administrator. I
was doing this but from a standard account. Once I logged out of standard
accounts completely and only logged in from the one administrator account, I
find that it still had KB971033 even though it was deleted from my standard
account I use. Then even though logged into only administrator account, still
right-click and say run as administrator. It will ask do you want this
program to make changes, say yes. then when typing the prompt is says it went
through and restart. Yay! on

Unfortunately, I've no idea about that
freaky "3 days until automatic activation" status. I never faced it
before. Well, it sounds pretty much like your windows is not activated. Next
time when you gonna install windows, make sure that it is a cracked version
setup or buy that expensive genuine version from the market(well nobody likes
that). Nvm. I'll try to find out how to fix that. on

Thank you so much Akash. I had a minor issue
with Part B, but it worked out in the end. When trying to do Part B, I got
this message, when I typed [C:\Windows\System32\slmgr.vbs -rearm].
'slmgr.vbs' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable
program or batch file. The "slmgr.vbs" file was not in the
"C:\Windows\System32" folder... instead it was in a very weird
place - "C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64....(a lot of alpha-numeric characters)".
I did find a file named "slmgr.vbs.REMOVEWAT" in the System32
folder though. After "-rearm"-ing the "slmgr.vbs" file in
the weird folder, I rebooted and my pc loaded without that annoying message.
Thank you so much for the help. Really really appreciate it. on

OK. Looks like you dont need to do PART A.
Just do the PART B of the procedure. If it didn't work out we'll think
something else. Hey! or you could install the "KB971033" update
from Microsoft windows 7 website and then do the above procedure. But, before
that execute PART B on your system and ping me. I hope it'll work out. on

'validate' Windows 7 (and which didn't really work),
removewat, had changed the name of the program to slmgr.vbs.removewat.

  3. I am getting the windows 7 popup, telling me, over and over and over again, that my "copy of Windows is not genuine". I bought my Windows with the PC and it is certainly genuine, not that this is stopping MS from spamming me with this crap of course. presumably they imagine that my "license" to use their crappy OS has "expired": They\re not getting a cent from me, I can tell you that.
Anyway, I tried to do what you suggested and when I found the 971033 update and tried to uninstall it, nothing happens. It doesn`t disappear from the list and I get no response of any kind. Any ideas?
