  1. Hi Akash, I've already used RemoveWAT on my PC so now the slmgr file is not in the System32 folder but here in "C:\Windows\System32\slmgr\0409\"

I tried running the command but I still get the same message that "slmgr.vbs is not a recognized internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I don't get the pop-up window on logging in because of RemoveWAT but the desktop message still won't go. I want to get rid of that annoying message. Could you provide us with a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, i can't seem to access the previous comments which had a fix that worked for me, can you provide a new working link to previous comment thread here please?

Also - the fix worked for me for some time, but has now reverted to 'not genuine' :( Has there been a new affected update? Or should i stop my computer from updating?

    Thanks - Michelle

Solved: Found the file in MediaFire. Put it in the \0409\ folder. Typed the command, and it worked.

      Thanks a lot for this.

    2. I also had this problem but found my file in a folder entitled 'Windows/winsxs/x86_microsoft-windows-security-spp-tools_.....'

To others that are unable to locate the slmgr.vbs file do a file search from the start menu as it may be in a strange location!

    3. Hi Sean and Akash - just to let you know that i was getting this error. I then accessed the command prompt via the Start menu (start>All Programs>Accessories) and then right clicked on the Command Prompt and clicked run as administrator.

I then entered the commands recommended by Akash

      c:
      cd windows
      cd system32
      cd slmgr
      cd 0409
      slmgr.vbs -rearm

And the command completed successfully - i now have to reboot for changes to take place. Wish me luck!
(if this works i will also be turning off Windows Update!)

    4. Yes it did... HURRAH!!

I have now turned WindowsUpdates off which is a shame - hope my AntiVirus (Eset NOD32 6) is okay with that as it usually prompts me to update when necessary.

    5. Hey, it seems to have reverted back to 'not genuine' state after a month again even though i had turned updates etc off :(

I have reapplied the 'rearm' fix and also now found out how to further ensure the updates dont get applied by turning them off at a system level. I found this tutorial on YouTube and have followed the instructions... so will let you know if i get any further problems, but thought this YouTube tutorial may be helpful to others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWd4k2OggJY

I have completed all steps and manage to remove the "windows not genuine" message. I just want to confirm, is this permanent? Will the message appear again after some time? I still receive the message for activation when I restart PC, though it is not causing any problem, just very annoying.

I came across this thread and it's helped tremendously!! Thank you!! I had a non genuine copy of Windows 7 and a window kept popping up stating so. I then purchased a copy of Home Premium online and continued to change product key. I kept getting errors and followed your instruction all the way to "rearm" ing and rebooting. I then put in
    slmgr.vbs -ipk (product key)
slmgr.vbs -ato and I ran into an error : "on a computer running MW no-core edition run 'sluiexe02a0x8007007B. Please help !!
